Hello Readers!

Thank you for coming to my photography blog where I will share my favorite captures, my thoughts, and some great stories as I document the beauty of the natural and built environment!

To start, I'll tell you a little about the idea behind Garden City Photography.

I became interested in photography after taking a course in high school on the artistic techniques behind capturing moments. Of course, camera technology has drastically changed since my first digital camera as a teenager and I now capture most of my images with my Samsung Galaxy S25+ or my Canon EOS R50. Both of which are really great tools for capturing the beauty of nature, urban areas, and random things that capture my eye.

Another aspect of my photography brand "Garden City Photography" came from my professional background as an Urban Planner. During my college days, I spent a lot of time learning about Urban Design and theory. I became particularly interested in the Garden City Concept designed by Sir Ebenezer Howard in 1898.

In 1898, the industrialization period at it's height. This period brought really poor conditions for people living in urban industrialized centers. As a solution to these issues, Sir Howard created the Garden City concept by recommending placement of industrial corporations and intense business in a centralized location with roadways and railways connecting to both residential towns and agricultural country space. This allowed for the people to reconnect with nature outside the heavy industrial centers but allowed them the ability to navigate to urban centers for work. The theory goes much deeper but, I won't bore you. Let's just say, in practice, it worked rather well (see Letchworth and Welwyn, UK)!

In today's fast-paced urban and digital environments, it's nice to take a break and reconnect with nature, to see life in the city or in the country from the perspective of positivity instead of all the negativity. This is where I drew my inspiration for Garden City Photography as a brand.

I hope you all enjoy the site!
